Loan players set to star?
The Daily Express suggests that with a potential transfer ban looming, four Chelsea players out on loan could be regular features at Stamford Bridge next season.
Those Blues include Kurt Zouma, who the newspaper reports is ‘back to fitness and his best form after spending this season with Everton, is a solid defender for Sarri to turn to.’
On Reece James, it adds: ‘Wigan fans will be sorry to see the back of Reece James after the 19-year-old made his mark during an impressive breakout campaign under Paul Cook.
‘The full-back’s performances at the DW Stadium earned him a place in the Championship team of the season, as voted for by the league’s 24 managers.’
Mason Mount still has a Championship Play-Off final to contest with Derby but the Express is already keen to see him in the Premier League, suggesting Chelsea ‘might have to break the heart of club legend Frank Lampard by depriving him of the chance to work with Mason Mount again next season.’
Michy Batshuayi is the final name on the list, who it says ‘has bided his time for a chance to be Chelsea’s central striker since signing in 2016 and needs [Maurizio] Sarri to get behind him.’
Bakayoko to return
The Sun reports Tiemoue Bakayoko is likely to return to Chelsea this summer with a permanent move to AC Milan looking unlikely following his loan spell in Italy.
It says that the Blues ‘agreed a fee with the Italian giants confident that he would be able to perform better in Serie A than he did in the Premier League.
‘But the 24-year-old has enjoyed a turbulent time in Milan and fell out with manager Gennaro Gattuso.’
The story, citing Italian website Calciomercato, adds Milan ‘have no interest in keeping the French international at the club longer than they have to’, meaning the midfielder will either be heading back to Stamford Bridge or to an alternative destination.
Giroud stay to be extended
The Daily Mirror reports Olivier Giroud is set to sign a one-year extension to his Chelsea contract. The striker’s deal is due to end this summer but the Mirror says he is likely to stay another season after hitting the net regularly in the Europa League this season, despite not being a regular starter in Maurizio Sarri’s team.
‘The French striker was thought to be leaving the club this summer, after being predominantly used from the subs bench last season,’ they say,
‘However Chelsea have now opted to trigger the one-year extension clause in his contract to keep him at Stamford Bridge.
‘It will come as bad news to several clubs who were courting Giroud, including Montpellier, Lyon, Marseille and Bordeaux.’
